About the event
Join us for a meditative and soul-nourishing Winter Solstice gathering, where music and poetry intertwine to offer moments of stillness, reflection, and light in the darkest season. The Portland String Quartet presents Johann Sebastian Bach’s Art of the Fugue - a masterpiece of quiet intensity and contemplative beauty. This intricate work invites listeners to settle inward, to trace its counterpoint as a pathway toward clarity and calm.
This performance is presented in collaboration with The Telling Room and will include live readings of poems composed by students of The Telling Room in response to hearing the PSQ play excerpts of Art of the Fugue. The concert will take place in the near-dark, and audience members will have the option to experience the performance from a seated or lying down position. (We invite you to bring your own yoga mat – BYOM, as it were).
This free concert invites audiences of all ages to listen deeply, breathe, and connect through an offering of music and words to mark the turning of the season.
